Trust in Andrew Rick's Penalty-Saving Skill Pays Off For Philadelphia Union
Bradley Carnell and Alejandro Bedoya had full trust in the Homegrown goalkeeper to make a save in penalty kicks on Wednesday night.
CHESTER — Bradley Carnell had a clear message inside the Philadelphia Union before penalty kicks on Wednesday night.
“We knew (Andrew Rick) was going to get one,” Carnell said. “He always seems to do it at the MLS Next Pro level. I said to the boys in the huddle that Rick was going to give us one and we have to take care of our business.”
Andrew Rick saved the third penalty he faced in the Union’s U.S. Open Cup round of 32 win over Indy Eleven. The Union won 5-4 on PKs.
“It gives me so much confidence that all the guys believe in me,” Rick said. “I have confidence in myself in those situations. I love penalties. I knew I was going to get at least one. I probably could’ve gotten at least two or three.”
