The Philadelphia Union will face a new challenge for their second visit to Costa Rica in continental competition.

The Union visit Saprissa, who they faced in the 2021 round of 16, inside a packed Saprissa Stadium. That was not the case three years ago when no fans were in the stands.

Union manager Jim Curtin is banking on the experience throughout his squad to deal with the early rush expected from the Costa Rican powerhouse.

“The crowd will be a huge, huge factor,” Curtin told Union Soccer Blog on Friday. “They are going to come at us in the first 20 minutes like crazy. It’s important to survive that part, and when it settles down, let our soccer take over.”
