Philadelphia Union Notes: Preparation for Queretaro, Midfield Flexibility, More
The Union are prepared to face a more direct Queretaro side in the Leagues Cup group stage on Wednesday.
CHESTER — The Philadelphia Union have a clear view of how their second Leagues Cup opponent from Liga MX will play.
“We know they play pretty direct with a lot of long balls,” Union defender Kai Wagner said. “They go for a lot of second balls. We just prepared for it a little bit different. I think it’s a little bit similar to the Red Bulls, where they also played a lot of long balls and went after the second ball. We prepare for everything, but in the end, we just have to play our style.”
Queretaro comes to Subaru Park on Wednesday looking to make a good start to its Leagues Cup campaign. Queretaro and Club Tijuana, who the Union beat on Saturday, will play on Sunday in Chester.
A win guarantees the Union first place in East Group 1, which would set them up for home games from the round of 32 through the semifinals, if they continue to win.
Union manager Jim Curtin dropped some hints about how his side will line up on Wednesday.
