Philadelphia Union Drawn Against Saprissa in 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup
The Union will face the Costa Rican side for the second time in the competition's history.
The Philadelphia Union will face a familiar foe at the start of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.
The Union were drawn into a matchup with Saprissa during Wednesday night’s draw.
The two clubs faced each other in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League (which is now the old name of the competition).
Philadelphia won both head-to-head matchups with the Costa Rican giant in April 2021 and won by a combined score of 5-0.
The Union and Saprissa are set into the top matchup of the bracket. They will play two legs to decide which team lands in the round of 16 against Club Pachuca from Liga MX.
Club America will be the favorite to make the final from the top half of the bracket, but if there is any good news, the Union avoided Tigres, Monterrey, Columbus Crew and Inter Miami.
Pachuca and Club America are the two toughest potential opponents in the top half of the bracket.
The first round of the competition will take place over the first four weeks of February with dates and times to be announced later.
