Philadelphia Union Cruise To Series-Opening Win Over New England Revolution
The Union used three first-half goals to put away the Revs by halftime and take a 1-0 lead in the first-round best-of-three series.
CHESTER — The Philadelphia Union put a new twist on a familiar result.
The Union scored multiple first-half goals for the first time in the club’s postseason history to earn their fifth win in their last six postseason home contests.
“It's a good reminder that we are still a good team and we can beat anybody,” Union head coach Jim Curtin said. “Don’t forget about us. We’re a tough out. When this group plays elimination games, we don’t fold and just lose. We’re a team that’s tough to play against. This format suits us. I’m really proud of my players. There’s always noise internally, externally and the guys did a really job on focusing on the task at hand.”
Simply put, the Union did exactly what they were supposed to do against a reeling New England Revolution side.
Those results can be taken for granted sometimes, but this performance was appreciated more because of how much the club struggled in the matches leading up to the postseason.
