Philadelphia Union Come Away Frustrated From 4-1 Win Over Inter Miami
The feeling inside the Union locker room was that the team could have played much better.
CHESTER — Jim Curtin and his Philadelphia Union players did not have the normal satisfaction that comes with a 4-1 home win.
“Not our best,” Curtin said after the game.
“Obviously, the fans go home happy with a 4-1 win, but I don’t think we played our best soccer. Not even close,” Curtin continued.
The frustration came from how uncharacteristic the Union’s overall approach was.
The Union produced a season low in touches (408) and their second-worst total for attacking third touches (88).
Inter Miami produced the highest possession total (62 percent) of any Union opponent in MLS play this season.
That’s one of the many statistics the Union can point to that caused Saturday’s frustration.
“We were running a lot after the ball today,” Union center back Jakob Glesnes said. “They were good with the ball and we weren’t the sharpest with our pressing. That’s something we have to talk about. It was 3-0 at halftime, but we felt like we were running after the ball the whole first half, and it was the same in the second half as well. We’re probably lucky we didn’t concede more goals.”
