Philadelphia Union Attack Needs to Get Back to Doing the Simple Things Perfect
Union manager Jim Curtin wants the attack to go back to doing simple things perfect ahead of Tuesday's Concacaf Champions League round of 16 second leg.
CHESTER - The Philadelphia Union are tied for fifth in Major League Soccer in goals scored in 2023.
Based on that number alone, you would think the Union are doing fine in the final third, but the eye test from the last two MLS games against Inter Miami and Chicago Fire suggests improvements have to be made.
For Union manager Jim Curtin, the thought process for the team’s attack has to be to do the simple things perfect.
“These expectations have to be realistic and we have to recognize it takes time now for offenses to click in a season,” Curtin said on Monday. “We are three games into a year here, with a Champions League game as well. We’re not clicking on all cylinders, just like every team in our league with the exception of LAFC right now.”
“We know that part will come, but we have to do the simple things perfect,” he continued. “If we complicate things and try blind flicks and do stepovers when we should just be passing the ball simple, that’s not us. We have to go back to doing the simple things perfect. That’s the best way I can put it.”
