Philadelphia Union Acquire Sam Adeniran from St. Louis City
The 25-year-old forward had 10 goals in 32 appearances for the Western Conference side.
The Philadelphia Union acquired forward Sam Adeniran in a trade with St. Louis City SC on Thursday.
Adeniran, a 25-year-old striker, produced 10 goals in 32 games during his one-and-a-half seasons with the Western Conference club.
The Union sent $150,000 in general allocation money to St. Louis. The deal includes another $300,000 in GAM based on performance incentives.
The move had been in the works over the last few days. Adeniran was in attendance for the Union’s Wednesday night game against the New England Revolution.
Adeniran began his professional career in Spain with Leganes and hopped around in the German lower divisions before he made his way to the United States in 2021. He scored 13 goals for Seattle’s USL affiliate Tacoma Defiance in 2021 and bagged 12 goals for San Antonio FC in 2022.
Adeniran was out of favor in St. Louis with former manager Bradley Carnell before Carnell was sacked.
Adeniran has mostly played off the bench in 2024. His last start came on May 18. His last goal was scored on March 2.
The bulk of Adeniran’s goals in MLS came last summer, when he scored five goals in a six-game stretch.
At 6’5” and with a ton of pace, Adeniran gives the Union striker corps something different to work with.
Mikael Uhre and Tai Baribo have been excellent with their hold-up play in and around the penalty area, but the forward unit lacked pace since Julian Carranza’s departure for Feyenoord.
Adeniran has the potential to make a Cory Burke-like impact off the bench if everything clicks for him in Chester.
Well, well, they made a personnel move. Glad to see it.
Not sure what to make of last night's match. I mean, they looked good but can we trust it? I'm sure it's all doom and gloom meanwhile at NERevs headquarters.
Hoping the personnel move has a personality that will be a good fit. Have read somethings about “difficult to work with”. “Hopeful” seems to be the mode right now with the U.
