MLS Week 7 Betting Preview
We had to make some adjustments this week to the podcasting schedule.
The original plan was to record the betting preview on Friday, but then the Phillies home opener was moved back a day and we had all sorts of scheduling conflicts.
So I decided to make the best out of the plan and write out the betting picks for Week 7.
As always, I’m choosing one favorite, one underdog, one over/under and a goal scorer prop for the MLS slate.
Maybe the switch from podcasting to writing will do the trick for my record. I am a lousy 6-14 on the season, while Jon Jansen is 11-9.
Favorite
New England Revolution (-125) vs. CF Montreal
There are a handful of intriguing favorites on the board this week, but New England has the best odds of the ones I wanted to choose.
The Revs sit in third in the Eastern Conference and they have a 2-0-1 home record with one goal allowed.
CF Montreal has four road losses and a -10 goal differential on the road, so the pick seems fairly easy.
Underdog
FC Dallas (+215) at Inter Miami
Inter Miami comes into the weekend on a four-game losing streak.
Phil Neville’s side did not score in three of those four contests.
FC Dallas has a goal in each of its six matches, and scoring is one step in the process of winning on the road.
Miami looks like a vulnerable team right now, and I’ll take the risk with FC Dallas in one of the better road matchups of the weekend.
Over/Under
Seattle vs. St. Louis City Over 2.5 (-145)
St. Louis City is 5-1 to the Over 2.5 goals prop.
The expansion side will get tested by the Seattle Sounders attack on Saturday, and you have to think Seattle may want to make a small statement that it is clearly the best team in the West.
Seattle scored multiple goals in four of its six games, and it is hard to pick an under for a game that features a red-hot attack, led by Jordan Morris.
Goal Scorer
Hany Mukhtar (+125)
I looked at Morris for my goal scorer prop, but Hany Mukhtar has an easier matchup and a better price.
Nashville SC plays a Toronto FC defense that conceded two goals last weekend to Charlotte FC. The Reds have allowed four goals in three road games.
This feels like the perfect spot for Mukhtar to start a scoring streak for Nashville after finding the back of the net last week.
