Mikael Uhre Out, Daniel Gazdag Back for Philadelphia Union Trip to Montreal
The Union will be without Uhre due to injury, but Gazdag is back after Hungary was eliminated from Euro 2024
CHESTER — The Philadelphia Union really can’t catch a break in 2024.
Forward Mikael Uhre was diagnosed with an adductor strain that will keep him out 2-3 weeks.
Uhre suffered the injury in Saturday’s loss to Charlotte FC. His absence leaves the Union with two strikers to choose from in Tai Baribo and Chris Donovan. Markus Anderson will not travel to Montreal with a small hamstring injury.
Well, it’s not all bad news for the Union since Daniel Gazdag is back from Euro 2024 after Hungary missed out on one of the four advancement spots for third-place teams.
Gazdag experienced some flight delays getting back home on Thursday, so his involvement on Saturday will be minimal.
Union head coach Jim Curtin told me at training Friday that the Union will be smart with how Gazdag comes off the bench due to all of the travel in a short span. The last thing the Union wants to do is put Gazdag in an injury risk of his own.
“I was talking to the guys here almost every day,” Gazdag told the Union Soccer Blog on Friday. “I knew they needed me back so I wanted to come back once I finished at the Euros. It’s a long bit of travel. I got home yesterday around 11 pm because my flight was delayed. I will be ready for the game and whatever minutes Jim is going to give me.”
