Match Thoughts: Philadelphia Union 1, St. Louis City 0
Nathan Harriel and Jakob Glesnes stood out in the shutout win in the middle of the FIFA international window.
CHESTER — Playing through the FIFA international break always brings about some interesting lineup selections.
The Philadelphia Union, in any iteration, have not had something as extreme as starting a right back in a No. 10 role.
But in Saturday’s 1-0 win over St. Louis City SC, it worked!
Nathan Harriel turned in a solid shift in the right-sided No. 10 role, and then at the end of the game, he played next to Jakob Glesnes at center back.
“Nate serves a dual purpose,” Union head coach Bradley Carnell said. “He’s excellent on set pieces in the air. And then also his repeated sprint-ability and knowing how St. Louis wants to build up and play the game, I thought it was a perfect scenario for him. He emptied the tank. He committed to a lot. He had some insane numbers in terms of his running data. Credit to him to get back to full fitness.”
