Markus Anderson's Unlikely Journey to Philadelphia Union and MLS
The 20-year-old striker detailed his unique journey from the Spanish third division to Union Soccer Blog.
CHESTER — Major League Soccer and the Philadelphia Union were not on Markus Anderson’s radar until January.
The Union sent a scout to watch Spanish third division side Rayo Majarahonda to watch Anderson, and not even two months later, he started in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
“When I heard the news, I was a bit shocked to be honest,” Anderson told Union Soccer Blog on Thursday. “I never thought I’d go from the third division in Spain to MLS, which is a crazy jump that a lot of people can’t do. I felt like it was a good opportunity for me to play professionally and learn as much as I can here.”
