Kai Wagner Will Not Travel For Philadelphia Union's Game 2 Versus New England Revolution
Jim Curtin confirmed the left back will not participate in Wednesday's match.
CHESTER — The Philadelphia Union will not have left back Kai Wagner available for selection on Wednesday night.
Union head coach Jim Curtin announced on Tuesday that Wagner will not travel to Foxborough with the club for Game 2 of the best-of-three first-round playoff series.
“Kai Wagner will not travel with us to New England,” Curtin said.
“I hope you guys can respect that there is currently an investigation going on that involves the players union, disciplinary committee, the commissioner, lawyers. I’m currently not allowed to speak or comment on anything. That investigation is ongoing so I hope we can respect that moving forward.”
“Kai will not be a part of this trip. That part is certain and we’ll move on from there.”
Wagner is currently under investigation for allegedly using a racial slur directed at New England Revolution forward Bobby Wood, per The Athletic.
Wagner has been able to train with the Union during the fact-finding portion of the investigation. The left back participated in Tuesday’s training session before the club left for Foxborough.
No official announcement has come yet from the league regarding a potential suspension for Wagner. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that a decision will be announced prior to Game 2.
