Julian Carranza's Brace Powers Philadelphia Union Past NYCFC
Jim Curtin called Carranza's performance one of his best in a Philadelphia Union shirt.
The Philadelphia Union look more like themselves with every passing game.
Jim Curtin’s men now have 16 out of a possible 18 points in their last six Major League Soccer regular-season games. The scoring margin is 13-4 in that span.
That’s getting closer to the dominant levels of last summer, and the Union have Julian Carranza’s killer instincts in front of goal to thank for Saturday’s 3-1 win over New York City FC.
Carranza’s two goals in three minutes provided a remarkable response to NYCFC’s opening tally, and it switched the tone of the contest.
The Argentinian forward went on to earn a penalty kick to round off what Curtin called one of his best performances in a Union shirt.
“I thought it was his best game of the season in all phases,” Curtin said. “Defending for us, working, holding the ball up, turning out of pressure on a tight field. That was his best game.”
