Jim Curtin Pledges to Utilize Depth More After Philadelphia Union's CCL Exit
The Philadelphia Union manager promised more minutes are ahead for Andres Perea. Joaquin Torres and others.
An open and honest Jim Curtin made a pledge on Thursday afternoon.
“Our depth will be tested and you guys are going to see it,” Curtin said.
The Philadelphia Union can’t feel bad for themselves after the Concacaf Champions League exit on Tuesday night. Frankly, there isn’t any time to sulk.
The Union have seven games on the schedule in May, starting with Saturday’s short trip up I-95 to play the New York Red Bulls.
“We need to be better and that starts with me, the leader,” Curtin said. “Big-picture wise we’ve played 15 games total, the most in the league, we’ve also utilized 21 players over 180 minutes, which is also the highest.
“It’s been demanding, but the reality as we look forward is that our schedule gets harder and busier,” he continued. “I need to do a better job of utilizing the full squad, of rotating in the right moments, and I will do that and I will work to improve that.”
“It’s a squad that I fully believe in.”
