CHESTER — No one walked into Subaru Park on Thursday night thinking Jesus Bueno and Olivier Mbaizo would convert penalties to send the Philadelphia Union into the Leagues Cup round of 16.

Bueno and Mbaizo took the fifth and sixth penalties in the six-round shootout against D.C., which the Union won 5-4.

The unlikely PK-taking duo displayed a ton of confidence in wanting to step up to the spot in a pressure-packed situation.

“I wanted to be the one that finished the penalty kicks. I wanted to be the last man,” Bueno said through a translator after the game.

“(Mbaizo) was the one who decided (to take the sixth PK),” Bueno said.
