Jay Sugarman Doubles Down on Philadelphia Union's Developmental Strategy
The Union's principal owner is remaining committed to the organization's model after Jim Curtin's firing.
Jay Sugarman doubled down on the strategy that he believes will make the Philadelphia Union successful for the long haul.
Sugarman was adamant on Monday morning that the process can still reap rewards, even though the Union fired manager Jim Curtin last week due to the lack of results from the strategy.
“Everyone here is committed to our sporting strategy,” Sugarman said. “Everyone has a responsibility to make it work and we are all going to go to work right now to make sure we are a winning club going forward.”
“We’re not interested in moral victories,” he continued. “We want to win. But we have to have a strategy to win. We’ve seen way too many clubs, and Ernst is steadfast on this, we can’t change from year to year and hope it works this time. That might work, but it doesn’t generally lead to sustainable success. I think we’ve proven over the last 5-6 years that we do have something different and a formula that can work well in this league.”
