The blessing and the curse of having players stand out during the Major League Soccer season is that some of them may be pulled away for international duty during match weeks.

The latest example of that is the four key absences due to Gold Cup participation. Andre Blake is with Jamaica, Danley Jean Jacques is with Haiti and the duo of Quinn Sullivan and Nathan Harriel made the USMNT roster.

The Gold Cup group stage ends on June 24, but there’s a good chance Jamaica, Haiti, and yes even the struggling USMNT, get out group play, which would then take those players out of the two games at the end of the month against Chicago and Columbus.

Last Saturday’s friendly against Atlas helped Union manager Bradley Carnell sort out which players can contribute to the first team not just in the short-term, but for the rest of the season as well.
