Damion Lowe Wins Defensive Chess Battle In Philadelphia Union's 1-0 CCL Win Over Atlas
The Jamaican center back was massive for the Philadelphia Union in their quarterfinal first leg victory on Tuesday night.
CHESTER - Philadelphia Union manager Jim Curtin’s last message to his team before Tuesday night’s Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal first leg with Atlas was the most important one.
“The last thing I said to the guys when we went out of the locker room is that we absolutely play to win tonight, we play to score as many goals as possible, but do not lose track of the importance of keeping a zero. A zero in the first leg is critical in this competition,” Curtin said after the match.
Philadelphia came away with a 1-0 win thanks to a late penalty from Daniel Gazdag, and most importantly, it did not let its Mexican opponent score a vital away goal.
The second straight clean sheet on home soil was highlighted by Damion Lowe’s impressive performance at center back.
