Bruno Damiani Comes to Philadelphia Union as Ideal Fit at Forward
The Union's year-long pursuit of the Uruguayan forward officially ended on Tuesday in a club-record transfer deal.
CHESTER — Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner had to use patience to land one of his top striker targets.
Uruguayan forward Bruno Damiani was officially signed from Nacional on Tuesday for a club-record transfer fee. The 23-year-old was given a guaranteed four-year contract with an option for 2029.
“It took us a while to get him, but finally he’s arrived here and we’re working on formalities. We’re integrating him into the right now so he can play as soon as possible,” Tanner said on Tuesday.
“It’s not like you can sign players when you want in MLS,” Tanner continued. “It always has to fit in the budget and in the cap in particular. We got notified more than a year ago about Bruno. We are usually preparing our transfers over a longer period of time and that is part of the game.”
