Andre Blake OUT for Philadelphia Union's Saturday Trip to Face Inter Miami
Blake is out and Danley Jean Jacques is unlikely to feature as well.
Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake has been ruled out of Saturday’s trip to south Florida to face Inter Miami.
Blake is dealing with a right adductor strain that he picked up during the international window with Jamaica.
Union head coach Jim Curtin confirmed the news to the Union Soccer Blog at Friday’s training session in Chester.
Andrew Rick and Oliver Semmle are the options to start in goal. Holden Trent is dealing with another hand injury.
Curtin did not reveal which of his two reserve goalkeepers would play on Saturday against Inter Miami, who is expecting the return of Lionel Messi to the lineup in some capacity.
Neither Rick nor Semmle impressed enough in their starts earlier in the Major League Soccer regular season to claim their status as the clear-cut No. 2 goalkeeper.
Curtin said he is hopeful that Blake can play in Wednesday’s game against New York City FC, though, so it does not seem to be a long-term issue for the three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Union will also likely be without their key stopper in midfield.
Danley Jean Jacques suffered an ankle injury while playing for Haiti during the international break.
The Haitian midfielder did train on Friday, but he is still experiencing some pain in his ankle.
Jean Jacques definitely will not start and there’s no guarantee that he even plays if he travels to south Florida.
Leon Flach will start in the holding midfield position. Jack McGlynn, Quinn Sullivan, Alejandro Bedoya and Jesus Bueno are the options to start on the two sides of the diamond.
The Union enter Saturday in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings with a two-point gap to D.C. United in ninth place.
Scoreboard watching season is in full effect, even if the Union have upcoming games against close rivals in the East.
Here’s the list of games to keep an eye on this weekend:
Nashville SC at Atlanta United
New York City FC at D.C. United
Charlotte FC at CF Montreal
New England at Orlando City
Austin FC at Toronto FC

Thanks for this update, even if it is not the one hoped for. Hoping this outing is not as (overly) respectful of MIA
